2025 - Tourism and Society: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities

We are seeking to explore the social, cultural, and political dimensions of tourism in the 21st century and explore the current critical issues in tourism. Key questions include:

  • What are the current barriers to accessible tourism, and how can they be overcome?
  • How can tourism destinations and services be made more inclusive for travellers with disabilities?
  • What are the impacts of political decisions and boycotts on tourism industries and destinations?
  • How can tourism be used as a tool for political activism and social change?
  • In what ways does tourism contribute to or alleviate poverty in local communities?
  • What ethical considerations should be taken into account when developing tourism in impoverished areas?
  • How do gender dynamics influence the experiences of tourists and tourism workers?
  • What strategies can be implemented to promote gender equality within the tourism industry?
